With a relatively mild winter over most of the country this year the kilometer chasing is at fever pitch. An RUSA results search shows 84 members with over 1,000 RUSA kilometers accumulated so far.
The breakdown is as follows:
72 members = 1,000-2,000k
8 members = 2,000-3,000k
3 members = 3,000-4,000k
1 member = 4,000–5,000k
The single rider with a total over 4,000k is Gary Gottlieb of Texas. His 2012 total is currently 4,624k. Gary has the distinction if compiling the most kilometers in a single season. This occurred in 2011 when he managed 33,416k. Additionally, he was listed on BikeJournal.com with the highest mileage total world-wide in 2011 with 27,423 miles. Approximately 6,500 riders posted their daily mileage totals to the on-line Bike Journal in 2011.
The K-Hound Club is run by the Lone Star Randonnuers and acknowledges any rider who accumulates over 10,000 RUSA kilometers in a single season. Two New Jersey riders gained entry to the club in 2011 for the first time.
