Beyond Hope 200k (September Eastern PA R-12 event)

The Beyond Hope 200k is being offered on September 5, as part of the on-going Eastern PA R-12 series. Event details are posted at:
http://users.rcn.com/trosenbauer/R12ClubSep1.html

This course is based on the "Beyond Hope to New Hope" we did last February. Back then, we routed along the open main roads, to avoid icy road conditions. This time, we'll go along the quieter back roads once we get to the top of Tunnel Road. I've kept in the long flat segment along Rt 29 between Milford and Stockton ... this will offer some respite from some very steep climbs that await you at the Stockton controle to the finish.

I've already heard from the following riders who plan to ride:
- Andrew Mead
- Andy Brenner
- Mike Hobin (new member)
... and regular riders Bill Olsen and Guy Harris will likely ride as well.

Your RBA has already completed the ride this past Thursday, as part of a preride checkout (and my knees are still aching from some of those climbs on Clay Ridge Rd!) ... but I might clip in to ride the first couple of miles with you at the start.

If you are planning to join us as well, let me know via e-mail: trosenbauer@rcn.com

Just a reminder that although not required, lighting and reflective gear are highly recommended ... circumstances may keep you out on course longer than you expect, and if you finish after sundown, you will be DQ'd -- which will be the least of your worries if you get caught out in the dark without lights.

I've heard from several existing and new PA members, who plan to ride. The current roster of riders planning to clip-in for the 9/5 Beyond Hope 200k is:

Andrew Mead
Andy Brenner (if his back has recovered from Hillier than Thou)
Mike Hobin (new member)
Curtis Palmer
Judson Hand
Jack Bingham (new member)
Don Jagel (new member)
Bill Olsen
Guy Harris
Ron Anderson
Barb Anderson
Chris Nadovick (who recently rode across the US)
Paul Scearce
Naomi Scearce
Steve Hanes (new member)
Jon Clamp (new member)
Christine Newman
Brandon Williamson (new member)
Jack Brace
Eric Keller
Mike Lutz
Rick Carpenter (looking forward to his LEL account)

... and your's truly, who already completed a preride, but will probably ride with you to Portland.

I'm counting on the verteran riders to extend a warm welcome the new participants, and to offer some cameraderie to the first couple of controle stops.

Tom,

As usual, a very well organized and executed brevet. Beautiful route, even for a fixie. I expected it to be challenging. I didn't expect it to turn out as one of my better brevet performances. Got to move around in the field a bit and ride with quite a few others. Even made it back in time for pizza and beer with the first finishers. What a great day it was. Thanks!
